I used three different trade-up scenarios to try and give some different results. I looked to see if any players the Browns would be interested in started to fall into the late 20s to early 40s. In every trade-up, I kept the 85th pick to give the Browns some other options in the top 100. These are players I think the Browns would be in on if they had their first pick this year.
- In the first mock draft, I traded up late into the first round with the 49ers. For the 31st overall pick, I had to give up the 54th and 227th pick this year, and a second-round pick next year. In return, I also received the 94th pick in this year’s draft. Brian Thomas Jr. is a guy who I could see going in the early teens, or I could see him falling if teams prefer someone like McConkey, Mitchell, or Worthy. What I like about this scenario is that I was able to have three picks in the top 100 this year. He ran a 4.33 and led college football in receiving touchdowns. Dane Brugler has him as WR #4 and his comp to Thomas Jr. is Tee Higgins.
- In the second mock draft, I took defensive tackle, Jer’Zhan Newton, out of Illinois. Besides WR and Tackle, a defensive tackle is the next priority for the Browns. I think if the Browns had a first-round pick, they would have had Newton in for an official visit. (Remember they were in on Christian Wilkins.) Newton is very talented and is by far the second-best DT in this draft. I don’t think it is out of the question that he is picked over Byron Murphy out of Texas. I did have to give up a little more in this mock draft. I gave up 54 and 206 this year and a 2nd and 6th-round pick next year. I was able to get pick 125 this year as well.
- In the third mock draft, moved up to select WR Adonai Mitchell from Texas. Because I was not moving into the first round, I did not have to give up our second-round pick next year. I only had to give up 54 and a round three next year. Maybe they would have to throw in another late-round pick. Like I talked about with Thomas Jr, Mitchell could also fall because of the amount of talented WRs in this draft. It will come down to what teams are looking for in a WR. He ran a 4.34 in the 40 and Dane Brugler has a 1-2 round grade on Mitchell. Of my three scenarios, this is the one I feel is the most likely to happen. Maybe not the pick persay, but the Browns moving up to the low 40s to a guy they really like and didn’t think would be there.
- Browns fans, out of these three which would you prefer???
- Later in the week, I will do three mock draft scenarios that involve trading back. (Unfortunately, this is most likely what they will do, but we can have fun and dream until then!
