Grading Andrew Berry’s Drafts as the Browns GM

Ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, let’s take a look at Andrew Berry’s drafts from the past four years.

2020 – One thing I take from this draft is that all 7 players drafted are currently on an NFL team. That alone is impressive. As of now, however, only two are left on the Cleveland Browns roster. Delpit received a contract extension during the 2023 season and Jed will be playing on his 5th year of his contract. *The Browns did get a 6th-round pick in exchange for Peoples-Jones. I think this was a nice draft, but because it does not look like Jed will be the long-term solution at Left Tackle. Hopefully, he can have a nice year for the Browns. Grade: B-

  • Pick 10 – Jedrick Wills Jr.
  • Pick 44 – Grant Delpit
  • Pick 88 – Jordan Elliott
  • Pick 97 – Jacob Phillips
  • Pick 115 – Harrison Bryant
  • Pick 160 – Nick Harris
  • Pick 187 – Donovan Peoples-Jones

2021 – Again, AB hit a home run with his second-round pick. JOK is a stud and I think is a feature pro bowler. Like 2020, our first-round pick has become somewhat controversial. I think the problem is more about Emerson being very good, than Newsome being bad. James Hudson and Tony Fields are the only two who are currently on the Browns or any active roster. I would be surprised if either are brought back next year. Grade: C

  • Pick 26 – Greg Newsome II
  • Pick 52 – Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
  • Pick 91 – Anthony Schwartz
  • Pick 110 – James Hudson
  • Pick 132 – Tommy Togiai
  • Pick 153 – Tony Fields
  • Pick 169 – Richard LeCounte
  • Pick 211 – Demetrict Felton

2022 – If they did a redraft of the 2022 Draft, Martin Emerson would be a top-15 pick. I would put Wright, Bell, and Ford in the category of solid depth players. I hope Wright continues to improve. I could see him earning a second contract. Bell has had some glimpses of solid play, but he is not a different maker. Ford stepped up in a huge way in place of Chubb last year. I think he will continue to be a solid backup. We knew Perrion was a risk at the time, but it bit us last year. He is clearly talented because he was still picked up by the Jets during the season. York did not work out, but I think it is cool he is back on the practice squad. I am curious to see what Woods will look like this offseason. Thomas and Deaton have not made an impact and were not on the 53-man roster. This is tough to grade because we did not pick until 68 and very back-heavy. Grade: C+

  • Pick 68 – Martin Emerson
  • Pick 78 – Alex Wright
  • Pick 99 – David Bell
  • Pick 108 – Perrion Winfrey
  • Pick 124 – Cade York
  • Pick 156 – Jerome Ford
  • Pick 202 – Michael Woods II
  • Pick 223 – Isaiah Thomas
  • Pick 246 – Dawson Deaton

2023 – It is really tough to judge a rookie class after one year. However, I know one thing, Dawand Jones is a stud and much like Emerson, he would be a first-round pick if they did a redraft. Tillman showed flashes in the preseason but has a lot to prove in year two. I hope he can learn how to be a pro from Coop. Ika played poorly in his limited time. Hopefully, he can hit the weight room and be a little more productive this year. McGuire had some nice flashes. DTR had a game-winning drive against Pittsburg. Mitchell played well when he got the opportunity as well. Luke Wypler will be the backup center this year, and I could see a scenario where he becomes the starter in the feature. Grade: B

  • Pick 74 – Cedric Tillman
  • Pick 98 – Siaki Ika
  • Pick 111 – Dawand Jones
  • Pick 126 – Isaiah McGuire
  • Pick 140 – Dorian Thompson-Robinson
  • Pick 142 – Cameron Mitchell
  • Pick 190 – Luke Wypler

Browns fans, what do you think about AB’s draft so far? Can he add another potential Pro bowler this year?
