One of the many times I will say that football is back. Rookies officially report to training camp today! With this, I wanted to do a fun exercise of who I think will be this year’s training camp “darlings” or stars. I will pick a rookie on offense, defense, and an edge-of-the-roster player.
Offensive Rookie – The pick here has to be WR Jamari Thrash. The Browns 5th round pick from Lousiville. He will get plenty of opportunities in the Browns upgraded passing attack. He has a great ability to separate and make big-time plays. I believe he will show this through training camp and in the preseason games. A surprise pick could be UDF Javion Cohen. The guard out of Miami has a lot of potential and the Browns will want to see if he can earn a roster spot.
Defensive Rookie – This pick was a bit more difficult because of the amount of talent the Browns brought in with this class. My pick will be 7th-rounder, Myles Harding. The corner out of South Dakota State was named a steal in the draft by some draft analyst. He is a gritty player who is not afraid to make a play in the run game. I think he will show this plenty of times throughout training camp, which will make Browns fans fall in love with him. A surprise pick could be Bookie Watson. He is 24 and spent six seasons at Mississippi State. His experience alone will help him in camp.
Edge of the Roster Player – This is a bit of a wild card, but I am going with WR Michael Woods. The third-year WR from Oklahoma spent last season recovering from an Achilles injury he suffered during the offseason. Some reports say that Woods has put on a lot of muscle over the past year. In both offseasons, he has trained with Watson. The chemistry he built could help him during camp. His vertical threat ability will give him chances to make his mark on this Browns coaching staff. Could he push David Bell for the final WR roster spot??
