The Browns wrapped up the final session of their June minicamp on Thursday. From a distance, it looked like a success for the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are installing a newer version of their offense with the addition of the new OC, Ken Dorsey. The offense will feature a heavy amount of shotgun formation with downfield and option routes. As Njoku called the new offense, “Juicy”. Speaking of Njoku, he appeared to be a primary target for Watson. I think Njoku has the chance to be a massive part of this offense and will have an all-pro type of year.
One of the bigger stories to start the minicamp was the absence of Amari Cooper. Cooper (Age 30) is in the last year of his deal. This is Cooper’s third year as a member of the Browns and he is due $20 million in base salary this year. I don’t blame Cooper, he has been by far the best Browns WR in a very long time. Not to mention all of the massive WR contracts that are being handed out this offseason. I think this speeds up the process of getting Cooper a new contract. I could see the Browns adding two more years to Cooper’s current contract.
Although Watson is still only throwing every other day, he looked sharp on the days he did throw. On a bit of a scramble play, Watson launched a 50-yard pass that just missed Elijah Moore in the endzone. He also had a nice 30-yard pass to Darden. All of the media members were impressed with his progress and the “zip” he was putting on the ball. It seems like Watson is on track to be full-go when the team returns for training camp in July.
A couple of players I want to mention that stood out in the videos and some of the articles I read were Cedric Tillman, Elijah Moore, and Martin Emerson. Coach Stefanski called out Tillman for the work that he has put in this offseason. This could be massive for the Browns offense if they can get solid production of Tillman on the outside. He has a big body that can go up and make big catches. Hopefully, the extra time this offseason will allow him to make a step in year two. Elijah Moore was making catches all over the field. Man, I hope the Browns can use him correctly this year because he seems to always find a way to be open. Finally, I saw Emerson with a few nice pass breakups. He looked great and I think he has a chip on his shoulder from his Pro Bowl snub last season.
Last Few Notes – Micheal Hall and JOK look fast, they gave us a few looks at the new kick-off rule, the defense looked solid, and Myles Garrett tweaked his hamstring. It did not seem like the Browns were too worried about the injury.
What do you think about the result of minicamp Browns fans?
