Day 1 of NFL Free Agency was a wild. The Browns stayed the course by not making any splash moves, but they were able to bring back some key members on the defense.
Best move of the day: Bringing back Za’Darius Smith on 2 year deal with a base of $23.5m but can get to $25m with incentives.
A move that made sense: Maurice Hurst re-signing for a deal worth up $3.2m.
Departures: Anthony Walker signed a 1 year deal in Miami & DB Mike Ford signed a 2-year deal in Houston. While I am sad to see Walker go, I think it was time. Your leadership will be missed A-Walk!
Last year AB signed Dalvin Tomlinson near midnight on the 1st day of free agency. Will he do it again? I think we will hear a little more Browns news before the day is over.
This year I hope that player is DJ Reeder. Reeder is a big body that would complement Tomlinson very well. Also, it would be great to take a player from a division rival.
It was a big day for running backs across the league. Saquon goes to the Eagles, Pollard to the Titans, Josh Jacobs to the Packers, and Swift to the Bears were the big signings. With the addition of Jacobs, the Packers released Aaron Jones. Jones is someone who I would be really interested in signing. He would be great a great one-two-punch when Nick Chubb returns. The Browns will need a back to handle the carries for the majority of the season. I have seen many Browns fans interested in Zack Moss. He had a great year in Indy and would be a cheaper option. I would not be shocked if we see Baltimore or Dallas in on Jones, Moss, or Derrick Henry.
Go Browns!
