Browns v. Jags – Post Game Reaction

The Browns went into Jacksonville and secured a much-needed win! Watson and the offense looked much better this week. Let’s look at the good offensively:

  • 17 first downs
  • Out possessed the Jags 34 minutes to 25.
  • 125 rushing yards
  • Watson was getting all of the WRs involved
  • Jerry Jeudy looked very good

The bad offensively:

  • Penalties were drive-killers
  • Dropped passes
  • Questionable play calling at the end of the game

The story is Watson looked good in this game. He was making the right throws, extending plays with his legs, and had no turnovers. I really hope he can build off this and continue to build chemistry in this offense. I would love to see some more deep pass plays. It was a great sign to see Jeudy looking like a former first-round pick. On the other end, however, Cooper has looked bad. We have known him to be a sure-handed receiver during his career. He dropped a pass early in the game that could have led to a 14-3 lead. David Bell looked great, coming up with some big-time catches. Unfortunately, it looks like he will be headed to the IR with a hip injury. Foreman brought some much-needed toughness to the RB group. I think he will continue to get better in this offense. Ford had one of the plays of the game with his big 4th down run. I thought the O-line did a pretty decent job this game besides the penalties. I’ll never understand how Myles Garrett can get held pretty much on every play, but it seems our offense gets called way more often. Regardless, we have to get those cleaned up.

The defense gave up some big plays like they normally do, but they had two excellent goal-line stands. The DBs played well, but we need to start coming down with those interceptions. Those are game-changers. I thought JOK and Delpit were flying around the field. Myles had a strip sack that was of course picked up by the Jags o-line. Alex Wright had the most memorable sack of Lawrence leading to the game-winning safety. Limit the big plays and clean up the penalties, and this defense will be one of the best in the league. Bojo had an awesome punt that led to the Alex Wright safety, but a penalty in the first half cost the Browns a chance to have the ball at the Jags 20-yard line. Hopkins has to know that he can’t cross the 50. That is on him and Bubba.

This game should not have been close. Bad penalties kept this from being a 20-point game. However, at the end of the day, the Browns are headed back to Cleveland with a victory. Let’s fix the mental mistakes, get healthy, and start working towards 2-1.

Go Browns!
